I hope this message finds you in good health and wellness, and thank you for taking valuable time out of your day to visit my platform.
My pen name is The Stormy Poet. I'm a literary artist, published author, educator, and independent journalist.
Composition, for me, started off as just a hobby over a decade-and-half ago, and I discovered that, based on the critiques of my college professors, family, and friends, it was something I was actually pretty good at. I started off strictly composing poetry, but my literary heroine, Maya Angelou, inspired me to seek and achieve mastery in every genre of literature.
My passion is, still to this day, sharing beautiful literature with any and everyone whom I have the pleasure of coming into contact with. Literature has the power to unite across all lines, and I'm a strident advocate of that fundamental principle.
Also, as someone who is an ardent student of history, I've seen time and time again that English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton's quote has proven itself true: "The pen is mightier than the sword." I noticed that, when it comes to doing hand-to-hand combat with systems of injustice, literature is the most effective tool.
I'm a wordsmith and literary enthusiast who believes literature can empower, heal, enrich, and enlighten, and I also believe it has the power to incriminate, incinerate, and obliterate the forces of injustice. And, it was out of this self-imposed ideology that I felt it necessary to create a platform encompassing these specific efforts and goals. I felt that all writers have an obligation to use their craft to fight against injustice, in addition to just "writing for the joy of it" or to get followers.
As a black writer, I see that the biggest injustice we face as a society is systemic, anti-black racism, and I began to see how it affects every aspect of everyone's lives detrimentally. So, I felt it was encompassment of my duties, as a writer--and of every writer, to not just write for joy, fame, or profit; I see our job as being the trusted messengers of grammatical accuracy, factual information, concise accounts, and genuine experiences.
Therefore, I sought to create the TSP Compositions brand, for the purpose of accurately representing the entirety of my agendas as a wordsmith and literary enthusiast: (linktr.ee/thestormypoet).
TSP Compositions is a repository of my literary works, podcast materials, and social commentary; it's a space that combines the glory and wonder of literary art and its complementary tone to the real-world issues each of us faces. All are welcome to join us!
