You’re Hatred of Trump Isn’t Helpful
So, let’s recap on the events that’ve transpired this week:
d. trump has explicitly pressured an employer (the NFL) to punish and fire employees (players) who peacefully protest–an action that blatantly violates federal law, 18 U.S. Code § 227:
“Whoever, being a covered government person” (This includes any member of the executive branch), “with the intent to influence, solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation, an employment decision or employment practice of any private entity, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than 15 years, or both, and may be disqualified from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”
Don’t expect Robert Mueller to launch any sweeping investigations regarding the matter that’ll induce any “Judgment Day,” impeachment scenarios for the C.E.O. of United States Inc., if ol’ boy never even had attended court to deal with a sexual assault charge.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, and other owners have proclaimed they will put policies in place to punish players who do not stand and place their hand over their hearts for the National Anthem will be punished, which has already been ruled an unconstitutional act:
“If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein.
“We think the actions of the local authorities in compelling the flag salute and pledge transcends constitutional limitations on their power and invades the sphere of intellect and spirit which it is the purpose of the First Amendment to our Constitution to reserve from all official control.”

In a leaked report to Foreign Policy, the FBI’s Counter-Terrorism Division has basically declared that anyone practicing or speaking of any form of black empowerment can be suspected of terrorism, not the kkk, the neo nazi’s, someone stock-piling hoards of firearms, or the alt-right–or any of these organizations that practice terrorism but just anyone who they deem fit of having “perceptions of police brutality”–a term they made up off the top of their heads, when the data clearly shows that police brutality, a symptom of mass incarceration (legalized human trafficking), affects African American males at a massively disproportionate rate than any other ethnic group in America.
Heather Heyer, was murdered in Charlottesville, VA, by a white supremacist, James Alex Fields, when he ran a car through a crowd of protesters, much like ISIS has done in the past, but white nationalists still haven’t been stamped with the “terrorist” label. And, this occurred on camera in broad daylight.
DeAndre Harris, a black man who was savagely beat on camera for the entire world to see, has been issued a warrant for his arrest on some made-up felony assault charges, with no sufficient evidence for an assault that existing footage proves he did not commit. And, yet, Shaun King, an investigative journalist and BLM activist, is the one who had to track down 2 of the 4 cowards who surrounded Mr. Harris, when local, state, and federal law enforcement purposefully failed in apprehending the members of these terror organizations who committed these wicked acts to an unarmed man.
So, my question is, in regards to this week’s events, black people–and white people for that matter, are you awake yet?
Was this week, alone, not enough to jolt you out of your seductive slumber of escapism?
What I’m trying to say is, there is SYSTEMATIC RACISM at work in this country. This is WHITE SUPREMACY–what Jemele Hill accurately accused Donald Trump of practicing–working like a well-oiled machine. And, this is not a damn game or something we can afford to take lightly.
And, I’m not asking you to just ‘get mad’ at the aforementioned unjust occurrences. Anyone can get mad. Like Aristotle said, “Anybody can become angry–that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way–that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.” I had a conversation with a friend last week who said that anger was the spark to many movements and that we need to be furious at trump in order for some type of massive revolution to begin. I edified her in that anger only works when the energy of it is routed to the correct type of efforts needed to rectify an injustice, and anger does not and cannot sustain any effective movement.
Most of us have no clue how to harness and to properly direct our anger–no clue of how to even begin dealing with these issues. And, we can’t figure that out because we’re too busy sharing memes about trump on Facebook and debating with each other about how much a low life he is or isn’t. Far too many are far too busy escaping in entertainment and materialism–aka football–because they’ve let the mainstream media convince them they’re powerless and that the only option they have is to complain about how much they don’t like the way things are.
We don’t want to deal with how this administration came into power nor admit that Obama had something to do with them coming into power. The energy of anger must be directed toward addressing that towards reaching an understanding of the true reality of the nature of politics in America.
We don’t want to face the immense amount of efforts and selfless dedication that will be needed to rectify these systematic issues, on everybody’s part; it’s much easier to think we can down-talk and bad-mouth the president out of the white house.
We don’t want to learn about the deeply devastating effects white supremacy has inflicted and still inflicts on African Americans (in the context of being the decadents of slaves)–and about how those effects have begun to spill over into white America, and about how, through state, local, and federal government policy, if the disenfranchisements African Americans must contend with are addressed and remedied, then, everybody in America will benefit from that in the long-run.
And, we don’t want to admit that we must become educated and consistently and actively involved in politics, on the local, state, and federal level (Yes, I know I preach this constantly) if we hope to accomplish that.
That starts with baby steps. For instance, I, myself, am fairly ignorant when it comes to knowing how politics work. I didn’t really know how Congress worked, when congressional members got elected, nor what political power they held, to be honest, until last week.
Heck, I didn’t even have a clue of what kind of political power the mayor of my city nor city council wields. So, I’ve begun sitting in on their meetings and learning about what happens behind the scenes as far as what policies are getting implemented that affect the quality-of-life in Haltom City.
I found out who the “Fort Worth Chapter Texas Coalition of Black Democrats” were. I’m not a democrat, but I can at least sit in on their meetings and throw ideas in the pot, as to what they’re able to influence politically in Tarrant County, and to tell them what I do or do not like in regards to what their stances are on the issues that affect the black community.
Like I said, baby steps. It’s a small start, but everybody, including myself, must be willing to start somewhere.
My closing suggestions as to what you can start doing to be a part of long-standing solutions:
– Stop relying on mainstream media to be your primary news sources. Start supporting independent (preferably non-profit) news media that is headed by individuals with a trustworthy track record.
– Start educating yourself on politics, starting at the basic level. Then, gradually, work your way up and learn what every single politician does, what kind of political power they have, when their election cycles are, and what their stances are in the areas that affect your quality-of-living.
– Start attending town hall meetings and come armed with some information (data and documents) that support the type of policy implementation you want your politician to champion for.
– Organize the people in your neighborhood to become more involved in politics (power in numbers), and mobilize to keep your politicians accountable. You will need to stay on top of what agendas they’re pushing, in the form of their policies or their political influence. I recommend checking out the Town Hall option on Facebook.
It will show you all of the politicians that govern your particular district.
We don’t have the time to waste our precious energy on fruitless online debates in the comment sections or irate outbursts directed towards the TV screen, as CNN presents trump’s many obscenities on a 24/7 ticker. The sooner we stop focusing our energy on being angry and against these injustices, we can be for the necessary solutions.
