Thunder (Poem)

It can rip you from your sleep
but also soothe you to your dreams
.
It can roll and rumble, long and deep,
across the sky when it crawls and courses through cumulonimbus
like streams.

At times, it trails a violent light,
revealing rain’s distance away.
Other times, it’s synced perfect with forked bolts of immense fright,
when both trees and wet man can fall prey.

However, on this night it sounds of a giant chariot on a wooden floor.
And, ’cause of our harsh drought, it’s cause for calm and to rejoice.
I’d like to think, as I hear the submissive tremble of my window and door,
thunder is just a minute glimpse of The Maker’s voice.
